Sadly, I feel like the quality has diminished a little here, though the cuisine is far better than the stuff we had at our hotel. However, there are more exciting options in Hilo nowadays, so I wouldn’t automatically return here. But I wouldn’t rule out a return visit, either. I’d probably stick with the omelets and pancakes if I do come back, though.

I also wasn’t a fan of the celery or carrots in here. In my opinion, fried noodles can have onion, cabbage, and maybe bean sprouts. All other vegetables in local-style fried noodles are an abomination. During Mrs. Island Miler’s inaugural visit to Ken’s House of Pancakes, she went with the Really Real Snow Crab Omelette with rice and pancakes. I wanted to branch out and try something different, opting for the fried noodles.

In 1990, there were discussions of the possibility of putting the well-known eatery up for sale. It was on a golf course in Honolulu where Lindberg Ching discovered this information. It just so happened that one of his golfing buddies was also Bonnie Twitchell’s realtor. Realizing that this was an opportunity that he could not pass up, he and his wife, Frances Ching, made the decision to purchase the iconic restaurant. He then enlisted his daughter, Debra Ching-Maiava and Ric Maiava, to move to Hilo and manage the budding business.

Both are $20 today, and all omelets come with your choice of rice or hashbrowns PLUS pancakes or toast. You can also get cottage cheese, tomatoes, or pineapple in place of the pancakes/toast. Overall, I’m glad we paid Ken’s House of Pancakes a visit. It was nice to check the place out again – it’s been at least 20 years since I’ve last been – and to introduce it to Mrs. Island Miler.

Dinner,

It wasn’t quite as good as I remember, but that could be due to my now different taste and the rose-tinted glasses effect. There are still chunks of snow crab leg meat in there, along with smaller strands of meat, and I like that the omelet, while fully cooked, wasn’t overdone. The green onions provide a nice, light touch of freshness to what is otherwise a decadent omelet. Nowadays, Ken’s House of Pancakes is still owned by the Ching Family. It is still managed by Debra and Ric, and is still pumping out delicious meals including pancakes, burgers, fries, omelets, milkshakes, and other local favorites.

Trips to Hilo often included one or more visits to Ken’s House of Pancakes for brunch, with their tasty omelets, fluffy pancakes, and decadent coconut syrup. About Destination Hilo

It’s the good food, great staff and awesome community that keeps this place going. Ken’s is, was, and will continue to be a mainstay not just in Hilo, but throughout the entire Big Island. Ken’s House of Pancakes is a dying breed of restaurant – a true old-school diner that hasn’t changed much over the years. It can be pretty jarring if you’ve never been in a place like this.

Ambiance + Service

In fact, the primary flavor profiles here were salt and black pepper. Back in those days, I had the extreme privilege of being able to go to Maui or the Big Island at least once a year with my family. When I was a kid, I LOVED going to Ken’s House of Pancakes with my family whenever we visited Hilo. Learning that Mrs. Island Miler has never been, I made it a point to get here during our last trip to the area. Alas, things weren’t quite what I remember them to be. We have currently discontinued our Big Island Museum Discount Pass!

As far as service goes, we went during the after-lunch lull. There weren’t that many employees around, so it took a while for us to get seated and whatnot despite the restaurant being empty. Our server was nice, so no complaints there. Ken’s House of Pancakes opened its doors in 1971 under the joint ownership of Ken Pruitt and Bonnie Twitchell. It became the first, and only 24-hour business on the East-side of the Big Island. Success soon followed the opening, with the appeal of being able to sit down and eat at any time of day or night!

Also aiding in the success of the restaurant was the attached Tapa Room Cocktail Lounge, allowing adults to unwind with a tasty cocktail before, during, and after dinner. In contrast to the omelet, the fried noodles were a complete disappointment. While the noodles retained a nice al dente texture, they were quite wet/oily. Worse, though, is that the entire dish was incredibly salty. The HUGE slices of Spam scattered throughout didn’t help with this.

However, what caught me off-guard (I guess I never noticed as a kid) is that the restaurant is open-air – there’s no a/c here. I suppose this wasn’t as big an issue 30 years ago when our weather was cooler, but it gets pretty hot nowadays, as was the case during our visit. During our conversations leading up to our trip, I learned that, despite being there several times as a kid, Mrs. Island Miler had never been to Ken’s House of Pancakes. It was also the only restaurant in Hilo (at least, in the before times) that was open 24/7 and known throughout the islands for its pancakes and omelets.

By contrast, the Economist/YouGov poll, also released this week, pegged Kennedy’s support at just 3% among registered voters. It’s impossible to know how many of Stein’s voters might have voted for Hillary Clinton, but the claim that she cost Clinton the election is at least plausible. One reason it’s hard to guess how much support Kennedy will win this fall is that polls have a hard time measuring how much support he has now. Within the closely divided states, the sliver of the electorate who remain uncertain about which candidate they will vote for — or whether they’ll vote at all — will be critical to the outcome. With the election now just over six months away, the vast majority of voters, probably about 9 in 10, have made up their minds. But those locked-in voters and states are evenly balanced between the two sides.

Elizabeth Will, an Army heraldic specialist in the Office of the Quartermaster General, was named to redesign the newly revived medal, which became known as the Purple Heart. Using general specifications provided to her, Will created the design sketch for the present medal of the Purple Heart. The new design, which exhibits a bust and profile of George Washington, was issued on the bicentennial of Washington's birth. Still, this is an important moment in history, as it reaffirms Washington's commitment to republicanism, and marks a rare occasion of a victorious general declining absolute power. By contrast, Biden, who won 51% of the vote last time, knows that Trump’s core vote is solid.

Later in his life, Sinatra moved into a penthouse at the Waldorf Astoria with his fourth wife Barbara, who liked to dine at Le Cirque — though Sinatra could only be persuaded to eat in his car outside. The estate next to the Tamarisk Country Club gave Sinatra easy access to his golfing hobby, and his model trains got their own house on the property. It underwent significant renovations when his fourth wife Barbara Marx moved in and “wage[d] a gentle war on orange,” Sinatra’s favorite color, according to a 1998 feature by Architectural Digest. He called the main house “The house I live in,” after his 1945 Oscar-winning film.

Mellon, 81, has given $20 million to Kennedy’s super-PAC, American Values 2024, and has also given tens of millions to Republicans, including $16.5 million over the past two years to Trump’s Make America Great Again PAC. Recent polls have shown Kennedy getting more support from the Republican camp, which could be “a function of our getting the word out about him,” Smith said. That has included a public endorsement of Biden earlier this month by 15 members of the Kennedy family. The wide variation underscores the problem pollsters face in measuring Kennedy voters.

Known interchangeably as Farralone or Byrdview House, the seven-bed, seven-bath, two-half-bath home was designed in 1949 by Washington’s Kennedy Center architect William Pereira. It looks like Sinatra has a “type” — this mid-century modern house bears a striking resemblance to his “Twin Palms” estate. The “tiny” kitchen grew to become “restaurant strength” with a commercial range, walk-in refrigerator and a wine closet. He also added a helipad, a painting studio and a real caboose outfitted with a sauna, massage table, barber’s chair and exercise bench, the Desert Sun reported.

The man who set himself on fire Friday outside the New York City courthouse where former President Trump is on trial died of his extensive injuries, authorities said. From the original CBS Studios in Hollywood to the heart of New York City's Flatiron District, NeueHouse occupies architecturally iconic buildings rich with history and cultural significance. Designed to feel like the warmth of home, foster new connections and set the stage for cultural experiences. On other occasions when he performed in Atlantic City, Sinatra stayed at the Golden Nugget hotel, where his “Chairman’s Suite” had golden toilets, The Post reported. The home built by architect Robert Johnson in 1988 was listed for $5.2 million in 2015, including the piano Sinatra used during his stay. One of Sinatra’s first homes was a Cape Cod-style house in suburban Hasbrouck Heights — though he was already famous enough that police had to break up crowds at the house, according to a 1998 Baltimore Sun feature.

It boasts a large open space with vaulted ceilings, a kitchenette private, large bathroom with gorgeous soaking tub, and a king size bed. This suite also includes a separate private bedroom with a queen size bed. This Classic Suite is on the ground floor of the Carriage House, just behind the main building with it's own private entrance. It features a seating area for two, a King size bed, kitchenette with mini-fridge and large bathroom.

From April 1782 to August 1783 General George Washington, Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, made his headquarters and residence at Jonathan and Tryntje Hasbrouck family's fieldstone farmhouse in Newburgh. It was the longest he stayed at any headquarters throughout the 8 1/2 years of the Revolution. The Hasbrouck house is furnished to reflect Washington's stay and is open for guided tours. Here, the General, his wife Martha, officers, servants, and slaves lived and worked in close quarters, while a steady stream of guests met with the Washington's. How Much Does It Cost to Paint a House?

cost to repaint house

When your home needs sprucing up, one of the simplest (and cheapest) ways to give it a makeover is paint. Inside or out, a fresh coat of paint can transform the look and feel of a house. Labor costs often make up the largest percentage of the total project cost. There are dozens of paints available for you to choose from, some cheaper than others. Basic paints made with synthetic coloring will run from $20 to $30 per gallon, while designer, high-end paints made with natural coloring can cost as much as $100 per gallon. There are plenty of different kinds of indoor paint at different costs, so it’s important to know what type you need.

Professional Exterior Paint Jobs

There may be an increased cost for professional painting if there is a shortage of labor and materials. This is especially true if there is a high demand for labor services in the local area. In addition to paying a bit more, you may also have to wait longer to get your project done. If you’re thinking about painting your home, contact local contractors sooner rather than later. Related to the type of paint is the surface material you’ll be painting. For example, it may be cheaper to paint on the slick surface of metal compared with a porous surface like stucco.

Hiring Local Professionals

Contractors use a special moisture meter to tell if it’s cured enough for paint to stick. Hardened stucco takes just a quick power wash to clean, and it dries quickly. Visible mold or moisture stains can either be a slight blemish or the first sign of a serious problem. In some cases small sections with mold growth can be power washed and repainted, but a severe problem will need to be dealt with by a professional. When you’re ready to get started on your kitchen or home remodel, work with us to renovate with the best contractors.

How much does it cost to paint a house interior?

The cost to paint the interior of a 2,000-square-foot house will vary depending on several factors but can range anywhere from $6,000 to $14,000. If your home has textured walls, whether “orange peel,” popcorn or swirled patterns, they will cost more to paint—up to 50% more. A gallon of paint does not go as far on a textured wall as on a smooth wall. For example, if a gallon of paint covers 400 square feet of a smooth wall, it might only cover 250 square feet of a textured wall.

The quantity of windows on the home will also contribute to the overall cost of the painting project. Windows, like trim, require careful masking and prep work and need individual attention from the crew. Painting a medium-sized bedroom takes 4 to 5 hours, while a typical bathroom takes 2 to 4 hours. The time includes moving furniture, taping the edges, covering the floor, prepping the surface, and cleanup. Exterior Estimate

Some brands offer an all-in-one “paint plus primer.” These are recommended for small areas and touch-ups. Painting is a project that requires intense preparation but done well; it can last up to 15 years and add curb appeal that increases the value of your property. Let’s take a closer look at how contractors estimate the cost of painting your home by using our simple paint cost calculator.

This is because the painter can buy a larger, more cost-effective quantity of paint and because the leftover paint from one room can be stretched into the next. If you would like an accurate quote to have your home painted, contact us to set up a free estimate appointment. An estimator will learn about your project and consider all of the factors outlined above to give you an accurate quote for how much it will cost to paint your homes exterior. The average cost to paint a stairwell, spindles, baseboards, and handrails is $15 to $30 per linear foot of stairway. Taller stairwells and hard-to-reach areas may require scaffolding and increase overall costs. Painting a 12' x 12' room costs $450 to $950, depending on if you include the ceiling, doors, and trim.

If you have existing lead-based paint, this should be properly removed by experts before repainting the surface. For this reason, two 2,500-square-foot homes may have different painting prices if one requires more specialized labor and complex tasks. Paint can give your space an instant facelift but can also become a costly endeavor depending on the unique characteristics of the room.

Wood siding may need a complete primer coat if the new color is lighter than the existing one. The average costs increase to $3 to $4 per square foot if the project includes trim or ceilings. The costs can be affected by the layout of the room, the height of walls, the existing wall colors, your geographic location and more. To prime and paint a standard 400-square foot room, the average cost at $2.5 per square foot is $1,000 total. “If you can take down photos or art on the walls or move furniture, it will save the painters work on-site,” Ebel says. Micetich adds that filling holes, sanding, applying painters tape, and laying cloths can be easy tasks that decrease the total cost.

Finally, wipe the walls again with a clean, damp rag to remove any remaining dust. Painting your home can be a rewarding project if you have the experience and time. However, if the job is complicated or you’re not experienced, you might want to rethink your approach.

Late spring, summer, and early fall are the best times to paint a house exterior. Painting in the fall or early winter is ideal in southern states that stay warm year-round. Concrete foundations are porous and should be sealed and primed before painting with paint formulated explicitly for concrete. Painters charge $150 to $300 to paint a front door and the exterior frame.

Interior painting for new construction costs $2 to $5 per square foot depending on the home size, ceiling heights, the number of colors, and the level of detail. Contractors typically flat paint and spray the entire home interior one color. If painters charge hourly, speed will be an essential pricing factor. Most painters cover 80 to 120 square feet of flat surface per hour, or about the size of a small bedroom. This is after all the furniture is moved out and the prep work is completed.

If repairs are required to fix damage from weather, insects or animals before painting, this could increase the total cost. The national average cost to paint a house’s exterior ranges anywhere from $3,014-$8,117 (or $1.21-$3.25 per square foot) for a 2,500-square-foot home in good condition. The cost to paint a house will also vary greatly based on the size of your house. You can expect to pay 50 cents to $3.50 per square foot—or between $1,000 and $6,000 for a house of from 1,500 to 2,500 square feet. In addition to doing the whole paint job—or even just the prep work—yourself, there are other ways you can offset the cost to paint a house. Ebel recommends that people get multiple quotes and use these to negotiate, should you opt to use a painting company.

Your project might have higher labor costs if extra work like priming or stripping is required. In terms of professional outdoor painting projects, a significant chunk, typically ranging from 70% to 80%, of the entire expense is dedicated to labor. While some painters may quote cheap hourly rates as low as $20, it’s important to exercise caution before signing up for such offers.
